SHARK SPOTS™
Pickup currently not available
SHARK SPOTS™ are visual art inspired by nature and science.
These high-contrast, illusionary eyespot decals use predator-prey signalling to disrupt a shark’s risk-assessment process.
SHARK SPOTS™ are inspired by the stripes and eyespots found on fish species that have evolved to deceive their predators.
Printed at scale, the design references the large predacious eye of an orca or white shark. Combined with bold black-and-white banding, SHARK SPOTS™ disrupt the board’s silhouette to make you less recognisable and appear more threatening.

FAQ's
How do I apply my Sharks Spots?
- Clean the surface
Clean and dry the bottom of your board to remove any remove any salt, wax, sunscreen, water or oils. - Choose placement
Position your Shark Spot toward the front third of your board and centred down the middle with the stripes running parallel with your stringer. - Peel and align
Carefully peel the backing from the decal and line it up before applying. - Apply slowly
Press from the centre outward using your hand or a soft card to remove any trapped air bubbles. - Let it bond
Allow the adhesive to cure for at least 12 hours before surfing for maximum hold and durability.
*Tip: Apply decals in a cool, dry environment and avoid direct sunlight during application for the best finish.
What size works best?
All three sizes are designed to fit on any surfboard, so it comes down to how bold you want it to look under water.
150mm is a great size for dive tanks.
200mm is a balanced option and works well on smaller boards.
250mm is the largest size. It stands out more in the water and really lets the design and detail come through.
Generally people end up wishing they went bigger rather than smaller.
We make things that work better and last longer. Our products solve real problems with clean design and honest materials.
How do Shark Spots work?
Shark Spots are high-contrast adhesive decals designed for the underside of surfboards, dive tanks and watercraft. They combine eyespot shapes found in nature with bold black and white banding often used by marine animals to alter their appearance. When applied to your board, they change how it will be perceived by predators in the ocean.
Who are Shark Spots for?
Surfers, foilers, stand-up paddlers, bodyboarders, divers and other water craft users who spend time in the ocean and want an additional passive risk-mitigation measure.
Why use one Shark Spot instead of two?
Shark Spots are designed to deliver one clear visual signal. One dominant eye makes the surfboard’s silhouette appear larger and therefore more threatening than two smaller eyes.
Most fish and sharks use monocular vision, meaning each eye scans either side of their bodies independently. A single, properly scaled eyespot is more likely to be registered as one large watchful eye by an approaching shark. This provides a strong awareness cue while maintaining a clean, disruption to the board's silhouette during a shark’s initial inspection.
Are Shark Spots scientifically proven?
Scientific experiments have confirmed that eyespots can startle, intimidate, distract and divert predators.
Research on animal coloration and predator behaviour shows that eye-like markings and disruptive stripes can influence how predators visually assess potential prey.
Studies have found that eyespots can redirect attention while high-contrast striping breaks up a clear body outline, making shapes harder to recognise.
Because sharks rely heavily on shape and contrast when investigating objects, disrupting a continuous silhouette may reduce how closely something resembles typical prey.
Shark Spots applies this research by combining a scaled eyespot with bold black and white banding designed to alter how a surfboard appears underwater and introduce visual uncertainty during a shark’s initial inspection.
Independent testing is ongoing, and effectiveness may vary depending on species, behaviour, and environmental conditions.
Why black and white?
Most shark species see primarily in shades of grey and are highly sensitive to contrast rather than colour. High-contrast black and white patterns are easier for sharks to detect and can disrupt how silhouettes and shapes are interpreted underwater.
Will it affect my board's performance?
No. Shark Spots are thin, lightweight decals designed not to affect drag, flex, or performance.
Where are Shark Spots made?
Our decals are designed in Byron Bay, Australia and printed at Rhema Graphics on the Gold Coast. We chose Rhema as they have been printing team rider decals for the major surf brands in Australia since 1979. We use a premium vinyl to guarantee our products can withstand saltwater, UV exposure, and regular surfing when applied properly.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is FREE if you're in Australia and is calculated based on your location when shipping internationally. You will always know the shipping price before you purchase.
When will I get my order?
We will work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location.
Do Shark Spots guarantee protection from sharks?
No. Shark Spots are not a shark repellent or guarantee of safety. Sharks are wild and unpredictable animals, and no visual deterrent can completely eliminate risk in the ocean. Shark Spots are designed to reduce mistaken-identity interactions during early assessment and will not prevent injury or death from an active attack.
What is the return policy?
